Metsämiesten Säätiö Foundation, established in 1948, is one of the most renowned independent developers and supporters of the forest sector in Finland.
We award some 1,8 million euros yearly from the profits of our investments, for advancing the well-being, abilities and human capital of the people working in the forest sector. By developing the skills of forest professionals we advance a thriving forest sector and build a sustainable bioeconomy for the future.
Grants and scholarships
The essential element of the Foundation’s work is awarding grants and scholarships
We award financial support to our key areas of focus: Education and research projects, study reports, development, marketing and communications projects, studies and study tours abroad as well as writing thesis. In addition, we participate in and influence the societal discussion as well as work actively in various networks.
We operate independently and in cooperation with our stakeholders, promoting innovative and practical approaches and transparency.
Application period for grants is 1.12.–31.1. We grant about 1,6 million euros a year for initiatives developing the forest sector.
Application period for scholarships 1.1.–31.12. We grant scholarships for graduating young people and inspiring individuals at workplaces.
Our goal is a successful forest professional
People are the key to the success of the forest sector, its companies and communities. We support this by advancing know how, human interaction skills, work procedures and well-being at workplace. In the long term, the significance of new knowledge will be of growing importance. We need to secure the attractiveness of the forest sector as a workplace and understand the changes and their consequences ahead.

- Analysing, interpreting and anticipating future changes affecting forestry stakeholders

Effectiveness as a goal
The Foundation evaluates the effectiveness of its own operations as well as the activities of the forest sector. The Foundation has carried out evaluations - among others – of forest research, forest education and communication targeting the youth.
From the projects we fund, we expect effectiveness, external communication and implementation of the results according to the Foundation's goals.
Our values are based on independence, future orientation and cooperation. Our activities are open and transparent: Foundation rules and all recipients of grants of at least 1500 euros are available on our homepage.

Donations are welcome
The Foundation's current operations are funded by revenues from forest properties, rental housing and various types of financial investments. The basis for independent and effective actions is the long-term and responsible management of the Foundation's assets. A particularly important asset is forest; The foundation believes in forests. Donations are welcome, they solidify the effectiveness of the operations.
